Licensing agency and TPA records to AI labs
Labs want the judgment inside claims handling: how an adjuster reads a loss, asks for documents and settles. We take policyholder data out of scope, check what your carrier and client agreements allow, and bring the workflow to buyers that list insurance.

Policyholder information is regulated twice
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act bars a financial institution from disclosing a consumer's nonpublic personal information to an unaffiliated third party without notice and a chance to opt out (15 U.S.C. 6802). States that adopted the NAIC Insurance Data Security Model Law (MDL-668) also require a written security program and due diligence on third-party service providers, and its definition of nonpublic information covers health care and payment for care. We read your carrier and client agreements before scoping, and buyers remove policyholder identities before any sample is reviewed.

We never license, in this industry
- Policyholder and claimant names, SSNs, policy and claim numbers
- Medical records in bodily-injury and workers' comp files
- Payment card and bank account details
- Files your carrier or client agreements do not let you share
A worked example
An illustrative case: a 60-person TPA with 12 years of claim notes in Origami Risk, Outlook, Zendesk and SharePoint. AI labs' published price tiers put a firm like this at an Estimated License Value of $150K–$1M+ per license. The AI lab pays that to the firm directly; Marin Data costs it nothing.
Illustrative. Range from AI labs' published price tiers; not an offer.
Questions insurance agencies and tpas ask us
Whose data is a claim file, ours or the carrier's?
Your service agreement decides. Files you hold for a carrier may be the carrier's to license. Your own procedures, templates and de-identified handling notes may be yours. We read the agreement before anything goes in scope.
Do workers' comp and bodily-injury files count as health data?
They contain it. The NAIC model law counts information about health care and payment for care as nonpublic information. Medical content stays out of scope, and the buyer removes identities from the rest before anyone reviews a sample.
What does it cost us?
Nothing up front, and nothing at all if no deal closes. Marin Data is paid by the AI lab, never out of your payment.
