Licensing a 3PL's records to AI labs
Labs want to see how dispatchers and account managers handle exceptions: a missed pickup, a short shipment, a carrier who stops answering. We separate your workflow from your shippers' data and take it to the buyers that list logistics.

Shipment details belong to the shipper
Federal law bars a carrier or broker from disclosing the nature, quantity, destination, consignee or routing of a shipment without the shipper's or consignee's consent, where the information could harm them or reveal their business to a competitor (49 U.S.C. 14908, civil penalty up to $2,000). Customer contracts and NDAs can add more, since email and chat often carry other companies' confidential information (Frankfurt Kurnit, Oct 1, 2026). We read your customer agreements first. Buyers remove shipper and consignee names, addresses and lanes before any sample is reviewed.

- Driver records and anything identifying a driver
- Data your customer contracts keep confidential
A worked example
An illustrative case: a 120-person 3PL with 11 years of exception tickets in Zendesk, Slack, NetSuite and Gmail. AI labs' published price tiers put a firm like this at an Estimated License Value of $300K–$1M+ per license. The AI lab pays that to the firm directly; Marin Data costs it nothing.

Questions logistics and 3pls ask us
Our TMS is full of customer names. Is that a problem?
It means the TMS needs the most work before a sample. Shipper and consignee details come out, and 49 U.S.C. 14908 is why. The decisions your team made on each load are what buyers want, and those survive de-identification.
We are a freight broker. Do the same rules apply?
Yes. Section 14908 covers brokers as well as carriers. We check your broker-shipper and broker-carrier agreements before anything is scoped.
What does it cost us?
Nothing up front, and nothing at all if no deal closes. Marin Data is paid by the AI lab, never out of your payment.
