Licensing construction records to AI labs
Labs want to see how a project team answers RFIs, prices change orders and closes out a job. We sort out which drawings and documents you own, scope out the rest, and take your project workflow to the buyers that accept it.

The architect usually owns the drawings
Under the AIA's standard owner-architect agreements, the architect and its consultants are the authors and owners of their instruments of service and keep the copyright. The owner receives a license limited to building, using, maintaining and altering that project, and contractors may copy the documents only for work on it. Your own RFIs, change-order logs and daily reports are a separate question that turns on each prime contract and its confidentiality terms. We check each contract before any project goes in scope.

We never license, in this industry
- Architects' and engineers' drawings you hold under license
- Owner and client names and site addresses
- Bid and pricing data a contract keeps confidential
- Certified payroll, worker records and incident reports that name people
A worked example
An illustrative case: a 75-person general contractor with 13 years of RFIs and change orders in Procore, AutoCAD, Outlook and SharePoint. AI labs' published price tiers put a firm like this at an Estimated License Value of $150K–$1M+ per license. The AI lab pays that to the firm directly; Marin Data costs it nothing.
Illustrative. Range from AI labs' published price tiers; not an offer.
Questions construction and engineering ask us
We are an engineering firm. Do we own our drawings?
Under the AIA's standard agreements the design professional owns them and the client gets a license. Your own contracts decide. Where they follow that model, your drawings and calculations may be licensable once client and site details are removed.
Do buyers want construction data?
Fewer name it. Mercor's sector list leaves construction out, and The General Data Company lists industrial projects, CAD and drawings (Who Sells Data, observed Oct 14, 2026). Polyshares and SuperAnnotate take any sector. Expect a smaller field than for software or professional services.
What does it cost us?
Nothing up front, and nothing at all if no deal closes. Marin Data is paid by the AI lab, never out of your payment.
