Licensing revenue-cycle records to AI labs
Labs want to see how billing teams code, submit, chase and appeal claims. We license the workflow behind your revenue cycle, de-identified to HIPAA's standard before an AI lab sees it, and clinical records stay out of every deal.

Claims data is protected health information
A billing company that works for providers is usually their business associate, and 45 CFR 164.502(a)(3) lets it use protected health information only as its business associate agreement permits. Data that meets the de-identification standard in 45 CFR 164.514 falls outside the Privacy Rule. Either a qualified expert documents that the re-identification risk is very small, or 18 identifiers are removed, including every date element finer than the year and most ZIP code digits. We start with your BAAs and license only what they allow, de-identified to that standard.

We never license, in this industry
- Clinical notes, charts and anything else from the medical record
- Patient names, dates of service, member IDs and full ZIP codes
- Data your business associate agreements do not let you use
- Your own staff's HR and payroll files
A worked example
An illustrative case: a 70-person billing company with 8 years of denial work in Waystar, ServiceNow, Teams and SharePoint. AI labs' published price tiers put a firm like this at an Estimated License Value of $100K–$800K per license. The AI lab pays that to the firm directly; Marin Data costs it nothing.
Illustrative. Range from AI labs' published price tiers; not an offer.
Questions healthcare administration ask us
We are a business associate. Can we license anything?
Possibly. Your BAAs set the limit. Your own SOPs, payer guides and internal process records hold no patient data and are often in scope. Claims work goes in only where the agreements allow it, de-identified to HIPAA's standard.
Do buyers take healthcare data at all?
Some do. Centific and Mercor list healthcare operations, while Labelbox excludes medical records and Protege's company program sits outside healthcare (Who Sells Data, observed Oct 14, 2026). We bring billing workflow only to buyers that accept it.
What does it cost us?
Nothing up front, and nothing at all if no deal closes. Marin Data is paid by the AI lab, never out of your payment.
